Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Pain in the upper abdomen is commonly caused by gallstones. The keyhole surgery for gallstones is the most effective treatment for their removal. To ensure the bile duct is clear of gallstones, an X-Ray (cholangiogram) can be performed during the operation. The operation itself can be performed as a day-case procedure or an overnight stay. Most patients will be walking and able to leave the hospital within hours of the operations, and resuming work within days. The stitches dissolve and the patient has no significant restrictions after surgery. Patients should then build up to a normal diet over a few days.
